Great cheeseburgers. Great seafood. Great crowd at the bar. Live entertainment every night.

Tonight we enjoy a couple  of cheese burgers and fries along with a bowl of seafood gumbo. The dance floor is crowded as a dude sings karaoke to Elvis and other classics from the past. We love this place!

Nothing disappoints here. You will not go wrong with any of the nightly seafood specials. Also a great showplace for local musical talent. Don’t miss this place.

Ate lunch with my mom and had the fried catfish.  It was delicious! The special came with three sides, which I tried the fried okra, collard greens, and fried mac and cheese. It was all delicious and filling, not to mention a great price. If I had to say something could use improvement, it would be the fried okra could have used a little more seasoning/flavor. That said, I’m going back the next time I’m in town!

This is the best kept secret in Montgomery…on the BLVD anyway.

The environment was very lax and fun for all ages. The decor was similar to a beach bar & grill actually on the beach.

The food was great overall. I didn’t experiment too much but I did get the nachos which had REAL chicken on it. It didn’t have those processed strips out of a Tyson package, but real pieces on my nachos. The queso dip on the nachos was splendid and just the right bite for Jalapeño Nachos.

My children both had corn dogs and gobbled them up in no time. We really enjoyed ourselves on the BLVD, for once.

We stopped here on our way to Florida, it was a pleasant surprise.

My wife just had soup [Chicken Rice Florentine] and Ham and Cheese sandwich.  The soup was fantastic and the sandwich was very good.  I ordered Blackened Grouper [Good] with Fried Green Tomatoes [Very Good] and a green salad.  We also got a side a Hush Puppies [Outstanding].

Service was pleasant and accommodating.  Very good meal at very reasonable prices.

Dad and I stopped in for fried shrimp on our way out of town. The woman at the desk at our hotel had advised us against getting seafood anywhere in Montgomery, but she said she was from Mobile and used to really good, fresh seafood. So we figured there had to be something good enough for us coastless people nearby and stumbled into Jan’s.

We both got the platter with fried shrimp, oysters, and grouper. I had broccoli and fried green tomatoes as my sides (both fine, though it was also my first time with fried green tomatoes and I just might not be a fan), and both came with delicious hushpuppies. The fried fish was DIVINE, so we had to ask what fish it was before leaving (grouper). Shrimp was also pretty good, as were the oysters. Beat any fried seafood I can remember. Remoulade was excellent as well, not sure if they make it in house or not though.

Atmosphere was cute and reminded us of restaurants in Sanibel. Service was friendly and quick, which was helpful since we told her we were in a bit of a time crunch. Otherwise we probably would have tried a dessert!

TL;DR- may not live up to your seafood expectations if you grew up on the gulf, but it was pretty great for some midwesterners craving something fried and fishy in a comfortable, welcoming environment.

Yum! This place is awesome! My brother and I split a seafood platter and it was plenty to share. Good prices, great service, and right off the Atlanta Highway.

Walked into a very friendly atmosphere with a gentleman playing the guitar in the corner who happens to be a huge fan of Chet Atkins and was very, very good! Pleasant surprise, sure beats the war splitting music you sometimes have to put up with at some restaurants. Ordered the small (6) fried jumbo shrimp platter and was tempted to try the Gouda Grits as a side, but being a relocated Yankee, just couldn’t bring myself to do it – but was tempted!
The shrimp were a nice size, cooked perfect and the cocktail sauce had a nice little zip to it. The cold slaw was  good but the best part of the meal was the music. This guy was really good!
Will be back for sure the next time I’m in Montgomery.

Aw. This place will always hold a special place in my heart.

I spent much of my summer on solo work trips to Montgomery, where I’d never been before. Before this summer, in fact, I’d never even been to the South before – I was based in Atlanta. On my very last evening in Montgomery, I happened to be in the area of Jan’s Beach House Grill, and located the restaurant on Yelp.

I couldn’t have chosen (or randomly selected!) a better spot for my last night in Alabama. Though I was sitting alone, I had such a fun time – between the live music, the locals hanging out around the bar, the sweet server who made sure I was well taken care of, and the delicious food.

Whenever I find myself missing the South these days, now that I’ve returned to New York, that last night spent at Jan’s always comes to mind. Thank you!
